Chengdu (成都) emerged as the capital city of Sichuan in the 4th century BC. The metro area is approximately 4,500 km2 in size, and is most well-known for the Giant Panda and spicy hot pot (a stew). Don’t be intimidated to explore this modern city yourself, as you are likely to run into friendly local folks who are always ready to help you even while not speaking a single word of English. You may not know that Chengdu is a UNESCO “Creative City of Gastronomy”, so you will be surprisingly spoiled with food choices. There are so many restaurants and eateries that it is impossible to list them all here, and we encourage everyone to make their own culinary discoveries. Below is a short list of restaurants we feel worthy of trying:
¥¥¥ Chengdu Airport Express Hotel 成都空港商务酒店
This hotel is nice in Western standards, and is also closest to the airport with good English speaking staff.
¥¥ Rongtou Hotel 融投酒店
¥¥ Jinjiang Inn Select Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport Branch 锦江之星风尚成都双流国际机场酒店
These hotels are within 10-20 min drive to the airport, and staff members can handle some simple English.
